Knitted Projects

Our project for the 2008/09 year is to make a garment that is inspired by a work of art.  I've chosen Paul Klee's 1938 painting titled "To the Right, To th Left" as my inspiration.  I'm going to make a coat from Vogue 1024 (a Sandra Betzina design) and embellish the collar by needle-felting the Klee figures on it in roving.  The fabric I'm using is a dark purple wool coating from my stash, and the roving is variegated green.  Following are a picture of the Klee painting, a copy of the Vogue 1024 envelope, a sketch of my finished project, and a picture of the wool and roving.

And here's the final product.  I lined the coat with Sunback lining that is the exact same color as the fashion fabric.  And I added a green Bakelite button with a fabric loop just to keep the swing of the coat in a little more control.  It's a very comfortable and warm coat.
