BURDA WORLD OF FASHION, Pattern 136, MAY 2007

In the pictures below, the first one is my version, the second one is the line drawing, and the third is the dress on a model as it appeared in the magazine.

I love the geometric angles at the bottom of this dress, and it came out exactly as the picture shows.  I made it from a cross-dyed linen that I found in my stash.  I read through the directions to get an idea of how they suggested putting it together and then jumped in.  The key is to make sure you transfer all markings as you’ll sew to a mark, clip to the stitching, swing the fabric around, and start stitching off in another direction.  I added stay tape around the neck before turning and topstitching the serged raw edges.  Note the length of the dress as it is very long (I’m 5’8” and it fell between my lower calves and ankles) and might be a bit of a task to shorten due to the angling).  The princess seams fit nicely around the bust and then flare away from the body the rest of the way down.  Take into consideration what kind of bra you would wear with it as the straps are very far apart.  Between the looseness of the dress around the lower body and the linen fabric, it was the perfect dress to wear to a dinner party on an extremely hot and humid day.
